Settings & data management

Usage & navigation

Welcome to LappWorld Mobile, the data driven, multi-scenario catalogue and demonstration plattform by LappGroup. The app combines a broad range of high-end product animations, various film material, a huge pdf collection of info papers and data sheets as well as LappGroup's rich online resources, packaged in a top-tier framework of dedicated design and multimedia technology.

LappWorld Mobile puts the whole spectrum of the world leader in connection technology literally in your hand and at your fingertips.

Unlocking LWM

Before starting out the App has to be unlocked. As an employee of LappGroup you just enter your password which, if unknown, can be requested at Lapp Marketing Communications in Stuttgart, Germany.

For customers unlocking requires the entry of a first and last name as well as an email address.
NOTE: customers do not create an account by entering these.

Once the three entries are made the "Enter" button at page bottom is activated and you are free to go. The optional fields, especially "comments" are for customers who wish to request contact or information.

The app attempts to send the data entered off to Lapp customer care in background process. If no connection can be established, it will do so again the next time it is launched.

Successful unlocking takes you directly to the Settings panel.

Settings

The Settings panel is where you set preferences and also manage the media contents of your LappWorld Mobile installation.

The Settings panel

Options

First you will be prompted to set a default startup screen. Choices are a clear image and logo design from where you navigate the hierarchy via a side menu, and the Quickstart overview, which allows direct navigation to all subsections of the app (see chapter "Usage & Navigation" for further information).

Once you press the apply button, the selected screen will be shown every time the app is launched anew. You can change this setting as often and whenever you like.

Data management

LappWorld Mobile is completely data driven. Everything you see in the user interface and all contents are defined in a data set that is loaded at startup, and the interface is generated accordingly.

The database file containing these definitions is stored online. When the app is launched for the first time it will automatically search for the most recent online definition and replace the one installed if it is outdated.

You can manually compare the server-stored data set to your local one by pressing the check button.
If a newer media definition set is found online you will be prompted to either use the new set or cancel the update.

Downloads

All media contents for LappWorld Mobile have to be downloaded in order to be viewed.
A fast and stable Wi-Fi connection is strongly recommended for this task.

To get you started as quickly as possible, downloadable contents are filtered into packages according to the LappGroup brands, solutions and services as well as the two scenic views.
Each file is loaded in a separate process, so cancelling a download does not affect any files that have already been completed.

After each completed load the app will check which files of the current data set are present. As you complete the various packages you will see files appearing in other sections as well. For example, downloading data for the ÖELFLEX® brand will also reduce the number of missing files in the Factory package. This is due to LappWorld Mobiles efficient content management, which stores files centrally and allows to link there from various views and navigation layers.

If a download should ever encounter problems (e.g. by internet connection errors), it is possible that the saved file cannot be played afterwards. In this case you can simply re-load the according package.

Usage & Navigation

Overall structure

LappWorld Mobile (LWM) is structured into three main views or scenarios.

At the heart of the app resides the Catalogue view (also called the Home view) which can be browsed by a selection of categories.

It is supplemented by two scene views, Factory and Robotics, which are 3D Simulations of real-life product and service applications.

For the Home view, LappWorld Mobile allows two navigational routes:

1. The full tour approach. This route emphasizes presentation design and guides the user through an aesthetically pleasing sequence of navigational screens.

From the calm and uncluttered start screen, the main menu is called either by tapping the Menu link or a finger swipe to the right. Depending on your theme of interest, you can now browse the brands, solutions or services offered by LappGroup.

The main menu also provides provides access to the settings panel and the Quickstart console.

2. The Quickstart approach. This route focusses clearly on user interaction efficiency. The Quickstart console lets you jump directly to any part of the app (except the settings panel), eliminating all steps in between.

Media selection & display

Either route will ultimately take you to a page summarizing a product range or theme.

This is where the selection and calling up of any media contents happens.
Tapping a product or topic name in the middle column will produce a sub-menu of all available media linked to this topic. Tap any of these to open it in the app's video player, PDF viewer, or an external web view.

The topic buttons (middle column) are placed automatically by the user interface engine so that no scrolling is necessary. If the media button sub-menu exceeds the screen height it will be scrolled up automatically so you always see all available media items.

Video playback is a core aspect of LappWorld mobile.

Movies can be paused and resumed as well as scrubbed by dragging the orange playhead across the time line. Reaching the end of a video, the app aill automatically return to your last point of navigation. If you want to return earlier, just close the video player by hitting the white X button on the right.

The playback controls will disappear after a short time of non-interaction in order to not disturb the viewer. Tapping anywhere on the screen during playback brings them back up.

By implementing GPU powered video rendering, LappWorld Mobile provides perfect playback even at high data rates and on older devices.

Scene views

In addition to all the functions of the Catalogue view, LappWorld Mobile features two scene views, Factory and Robotics. These are scenic 3D simulations of product applications and solutions. They are accessed either through the main menu or the Quickstart console.

Both feature a right-side classical navigation where selected topics fold out vertically to stay clear of the animations as much as possible.

Scene views are closed by hitting the top-right X button which takes you to your preferred startup screen.

Note: after installation, the scene views display only static backgrounds. Their contents have to downloaded from the Settings panel in order for the animation features to show.

The Factory scene allows content filtering by brand selection: drag the bottom-left silder or tap on a brand icon to switch to an x-ray view of the factory, highlighting possible applications for the brand's products.

The labeled markers are interactive elements and can be used for topic selection.
